Vancouver Island Jazz Enthusiast

Angela Verbrugge, Principal, Dexterity Music

Angela is one of the leading jazz vocalists in western Canada. Releasing critically-acclaimed albums in 2019 and 2022, she started touring internationally in 2021. She has sang at venues in Istanbul, London, Berlin, Munich and in March 2023, in Japan. Angela has been called upon to headline at British Columbia jazz clubs and festivals, as well as leading venues across Canada. These experiences allowed her to witness a variety of marketing strategies and artist policies. Her music has been played by CBC and leading jazz stations around the world, and has been featured on top Spotify editorial playlists. In her younger days, she was an actress in Toronto. When she moved west to Vancouver, she  got in a car accident that broke both legs. With a computer professor father, she pivoted to work in the beginning of the dot-com days. She wrote corporate communications for companies in the e-learning, privacy, and school software space. Her superiors recognized her talent for public speaking, writing proposals, managing spreadsheets, connecting people and forming relationships. Angela was promoted to VP of Business Development within a few years, working in Canada and the US. After spending a number of years travelling to conferences, she was married and settled down in Vancouver. She began working in the marketing department for the Vancouver Symphony. She also worked as a consultant writing business plans, designing employee incentive plans, and preparing investor materials. Angela studied graphic design at Emily Carr, competitive intelligence at UBC, and editing in the publishing program Simon Fraser University. She holds a college degree in performing arts from George Brown in Toronto. She is passionate about creating performance opportunities for artists, connecting audiences to music they will enjoy, and helping clients to present excellent live music without stress. Angela also enjoys working as an album associate producer and business coach to other artists. She is the mother to three teens. While the kids were young, to enjoy income with more flexibility, Angela ran a vacation rental home in California, quickly becoming the top rated VRBOs/Airbnb SuperHosts in her area. This experience between 2012 and 2020 helped her to gain an increased appreciation for the hospitality industry. She sold the property during the pandemic to allow her more time to focus on music related pursuits. In her free time, she writes songs, goes to yoga and barre classes, and attends many live music events.
